Projekt Slokoffie / my motives

automatic translate (german below)

On June 24, 2020 I cycled for the second time, within a month, from Mönchengladbach to Bremen to bring Slokoffie (fair & sailed coffee) to Mönchengladbach. The motivation is obvious. It is important to Slokoffie & me to transport things as emission-free as possible.
Nobody can pay for this coffee. …and that’s just as well. I have always wanted to be part of something whose value rises immeasurably. : P
It is a special feeling to have mastered these tasks that I set myself. I could imagine doing this regularly and with an unconditional basic income something or other activities would be feasible in the long run. In addition, if there was an accommodation and catering infrastructure for long-distance cyclists, this would be possible in even better “times”. Especially with even better “bike paths & roads”. It would save a lot of time & nerves.

Already in the Middle Ages there were racers and riders who enjoyed freedom. As fast as lightning and yet with your own health in mind. Wages and good conditions were received in the hospitality sector. After all, you always came back and were hungry and thirsty. They only had the bare necessities and the goods to be transported with them. Even then there were those who were exploited. But they certainly had a reputation. (e.g. “Postman”)

Now I ask myself the question of how this can be transferred to the present day. Cycle couriers are a good example. They tear their asses up every day to deliver things and messages, but are usually paid even less than car couriers. What am I aiming for?

I am interested in showing you what would be possible … I know of those who would love to do something like the Slokoffie tours themselves … they just didn’t have the opportunity or opportunity. Even if it will be a surprise, there are a lot of cyclists who are at least equal to me. Others would take longer, but I don’t care. It is about us, that is, those who want to respond to the climate crisis, do our best. I want to show that.

The fact is that when the last batch of green coffee is roasted, it was the first time with sailed coffee from Slokoffie. We lack the sailing freighter that still has space. The previous one is full and we need an alternative. Until this is found and when the sailed coffee from Honduras is exhausted, Slokoffie will have the coffee delivered conventionally by the partners in South America. These fairly treated partners should not pay for the fact that there are not enough orators who convey their truth with wind power or other reasonable means.
So there will soon be “only” fairly traded, no sailed coffee from Slokoffie. So far, no ship is in sight.

I would like to draw your attention to this and to the topic of fair and therefore emission-free or low-emission trade and life.

A lot is still possible and we as a society do not simply have to accept the given circumstances. We can create alternatives and implement actions.

For me, this project is proof that another world is possible.

Worrauf will ich hinaus?
